Exposure to international security risk for the Spanish company: the duty of care and the comprehensive approach strategy (DIEEEM14-2017)

In the last decade in the international field, the dynamism and growth of the Spanish business sector have led to a greater depth and complexity of its presence abroad, with a notable increase in business operations in more locations, an international mobility of employees. At the same time, the levels of risk and threat in the international field have increased significantly, making the environment increasingly complex and uncertain. It is necessary to describe the effects and consequences that these processes of change have for companies, for "international business security" and for "corporate security departments". For this reason, we reflect on several elements such as: the current tendency to increase insecurity, the duty of care towards employees and the "comprehensive approach" as a methodology of collaborative security. It is also intended to contribute to the development of several concepts such as "soft power" and in particular one of its elements (the "Economic" element of the "DIME" factor (Diplomatic, Informational, Military and Economic); the application to the business field of the dimensions (strategic, operational and tactical), trying to build bridges of knowledge between the civil-business sphere and the military sphere.
