Trends that will affect the Armed Forces in the 2050 horizon (DIEEEO117-2017)

The global security environment is volatile, uncertain and complex and the speed of instability around the world has increased dramatically. In this framework, it is necessary to provide some guidelines or considerations about what will be the trends that will affect the Armed Forces in the 2050 horizon.

To this end, the starting hypothesis is based on the fact that until the middle of this 21st century NATO and the EU will exist in a multipolar world in which the United States will be the primus inter pares with other centers of power among which will be found China, Russia, India, Japan and the EU. As a rule, the various military forces, especially the Western ones, will act in multinational operations with reinforced or complementary military capacities resulting from collective and industrial cooperation and cooperation.

Regardless of the need now felt by the armies of more special forces, better intelligence and full interoperability, capabilities derived from emerging technologies, such as directed energy weapons - including lasers - unmanned media or hypersonic missiles, among others, will be those that will allow to maintain the superiority in the confrontation in the future battle´field whose most relevant elements have been expressed in the decalogue of tendencies.
