In terrorist attacks in Paris on November 13, 2015, a number of typical elements of the methods of struggle of Al-Dawlah al-Islamiyah fil-Iraq wa-Sham or Daesh (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria/the Levant, ISIS/ISIL) on Syria’s and Iraq’s fronts are visible. Furthermore, the claim of the attack and some evidence about the central management of the assaults highlight a change in the organization strategy. Traditionally, despite its anti-Western propaganda, Daesh seemed to prioritize regional policy and the consolidation of its territorial occupation of Mesopotamia and the Levant, that is, the fight against Syria’s and Iraq’s governments, which the jihadist doctrine describes as the "near enemy". However, the recent threats and the attacks against Western countries and their interests abroad, are symptomathic of a shift to the fight against the so-called "far enemy".
