Jihadism in Spain raises new questions, after the last attacks in Barcelona (DIEEEO125-2017)

Jihadism is a type of political violence linked with the radical wing of the salafist movement. The ideology behind was born with the decline of the Islamic world and was reinforced during the colonization period, although back then it was oppressed even in its peaceful forms. It initially started as a political movement in the Arab world before it became a global phenomenon. The 9/11 attacks embody this shift to a global scale. Jihadism reached a new peak with the creation of the Islamic state in the turmoil of the Arab spring and in the middle of the Syrian civil war. Following which, the risk of radicalization in the west grew bigger and the number of “amateur” jihadists multiplied. The current changes the jihadist movement is undergoing need to be included in the antiterrorist policy considering the last attacks in Barcelona (17 august 2017)
