Framework document: Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) and its intervention in in the framework of African conflicts

This article pursues three goals. First of all, to present the evolution of the role played by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), and by its intervention in in the framework of African conflicts. Secondly, to demonstrate the relevance of military instruments in the resolution of those conflicts, highlighting the perspective of the Portuguese position in this context. The theses explained in this article spin around three cornerstones: insecurity in the whole African continent, the emergence of the CPLP as a relevant actor in that region and the verification of the necessity of arranging the military capabilities required to intervene in peace building and stabilization missions.
This analysis underscores the experience of Portugal in peace building operations, since the decade of 1990.
