Opinion document: Ansar Al Sharia and disturbing development of jihadism in Libya

This paper analyzes the current jihadist activity in Libya. It pays special attention to the case of Ansar Al Sharia in Libya. Ansar Al Sharia participated in the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi in September 2012. The origin and the modus operandi of ASL and its relationship with other jihadist groups like Al Qaeda in the Maghreb and the self-styled Islamic State are studied.
