Special Operations units in the fight against terrorism: US, UK, France and Spain.- Fernando del Amo Roldán

Since 2001, special operations forces have been playing a very relevant role in the fight against terrorism. Due to the irregular nature of these threats, the current economic situation and society’s aversion to large-scale military interventions, special operations forces have become a suitable tool to fight terrorism. Countries that have different military capabilities, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Spain, they all emphasise the importance of these units in the short to medium term, especially regarding foreign internal defence. However, special operations forces should not be considered, in any case, as a replacement of conventional military forces.
