Solar geomagnetic storms: the silent threat of a hipertechnological society.- Jorge Eiras Barca

Solar geomagnetic storms (SGSs) caused by solar flares or coronary mass ejections from the Sun can cause serious problems in the electronics, communications and electricity supply of the Planet. This report analyzes the probability of the short-term occurrence of a TSG similar to those documented in the History of Humanity, as well as the possible effects on the society. In general, it is recorded that the probability of an intense solar event, of severe consequence, affecting the Earth in the next decade is 12%. Should such an event occur with current protection measures, communications, power supply, water supply and security could be seriously compromised. The creation of countermeasures and action protocols that mitigate the effects of an event such as the one described is proposed.
