EUNAVFOR MED Operation SOPHIA: An instrument of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union.- Antonio Poncela Sacho

In the last few years the Central Mediterranean has been the main route used by irregular migrants to reach the European Union. The creation of EUNAVFOR MED Operation, within the Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU, has contributed significantly to a reduction in the smuggling business of irregular migrants in this area. The lack of consensus on the migration policy of the Member States makes it difficult for military operations. Adapting the mandate to the changing migratory flows could be made.
