The Operation "Margin Protector" and the Antiballistic Defense of Israel (DIEEEA40-2014)

The proliferation of ballistic missiles and rockets across the Middle East - especially Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories - has forced Israel to put a special interest in missile technology, which has become a key aspect of its security doctrine and its defense structure. Given the small size and limited geographic depth of its territory, ballistic missiles represent an existential threat to Israel and, therefore, require having a network of missile defense capable to provide protection for the entire population, while ensuring the normal functioning of its economic system and its political institutions. Although the Israeli missile defense system of is not yet fully developed, it can be considered one of the most advanced in the world. The operation "Margin Protector" is a proof that Israeli Self-Defense Forces are able to defend their Country against these threats considered the most dangerous ones. That provides the civilian population a high degree of security while granting their authorities a greater margin of time and greater flexibility when choosing their response options.
