Jihadist terrorism represents a challenge for the West, not an existentialist challenge however, but a super-dimensional threat because of the way it instrumentalises the media which leaves only one option - to believe in it. It is extremely difficult to eliminate this type of terrorism completely. To deal with it, it is not less free societies which we need, but rather stronger societies with firm beliefs. The Spanish experience offers a route to follow which will lead to its defeat. The greatest danger stemming from fundamentalist terrorism is the possibility it might use weapons of mass destruction.
