Xi Jinping and Putin, two leaders who challenge the international order (DIEEEO02-2018)

Beijing and Moscow are consolidating an anti-Western alliance that challenges the value system upon which the international order that has been in place since the end of the cold war has been built. We are living a time period in which the strategic leadership of both powers are being reinforced. In China, the leadership rests in a Communist Party that in four decades has taken the country out of poverty and placed it in a position to become the world's leading power. In Russia, Putin's leadership has shown an amazing capacity to pick up a ruined and demoralized country and place it again as a world power, not trembling in its confrontation with the West since the Ukraine crisis of 2014.
