Verification of use of chemical weapons in Syria (DIEEEO71-2013)

This paper aims at explaining the difficulties for reaching an unambiguous identification of chemical warfare agents’ use in the Syrian conflict. The main obstacles come from the UN Secretary-General's Mechanism for investigation of alleged use of chemical weapons, as the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention for similar investigations cannot be applied, and also from war propaganda campaigns from both sides of the conflict.
