Ebola: From sanitary crisis to economic crisis (DIEEEO111-2014)

On March 25th a new outbreak of Ebola emerged in four regions of southeast Guinea, later affecting other two countries, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Today, fear, panic and uncertainty have set up in many sectors of the population. The response given to the crisis does not seem to be sufficiently effective, which has led to serious consequences, not only on public health matters, but also a big economic and social impact on the affected countries as they watch quarantine zones, riots and lack of humanitarian aid hinder the proper management of the crisis. Affected countries begin to suffer negative growth rates, slowing down the area’s economic development.
