The new European Commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker formally took office on 1 November after receiving the approval of the European Parliament and be appointed by the European Council. Juncker will implement a new working procedure, and has proposed to renew the European Union on the basis of an Agenda that will focus on ten policy areas. The first priority will be to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness and to stimulate investment for the purpose of job creation. He intends to present, before the end of the year, an ambitious Jobs, Growth and Investment Package, including the mobilization up to € 300 billion in additional public and private investment in the real economy over the next three years. Other main objectives will be a Connected Digital Single Market, a Resilient Energy Union, and the negotiation of a reasonable and balanced Free Trade Agreement with the U.S.
