The canonization of John Paul II has shown a protagonist of great international importance. Its geopolitical role was focused especially in Poland, scenario of the last Cold War years, and "domino effect" of the fall of the Soviet regime. The Polish intelligence agency and the KGB, developed a comprehensive strategy to harass and dissolve both the influence of the Catholic Church as Pope Wojtyla. In the context of Ostpolitik, the analysis shows how the Holy See hadn´t developed any counterintelligence means with which to resist the attempts of penetration, disinformation and destabilization. This paper shows the criteria of action and tactics developed by these agencies over four decades. Conclusions of the entire set of initiatives carried out against what was called "the only real threat in Poland" are extracted.
