The Central African Republic today (DIEEEO45-2014)

The spiral of violence that Central African Republic is under since 2013 has no precedent of the same magnitude. However, its causes must be searched in deeper reasons that may help to explain the main characteristics of the state. On another hand, the answers given to mitigate the situation (mainly military and humanitarian) are insufficient because, aside of not mitigating the detected necessities, it doesn’t give much solution to the structural problems that the country must face (as, for example, the lack of social cohesion). This article, based on a 10 month journey in the country (May 2013 – March 2014), aims to focus on the deep causes that can explain the current situation, as well as review how to mitigate its consequences.
