Abdelaziz Bouteflika has started his fourth term as President of Algeria in the same way he finished the third one: casting serious doubts about who is actually ruling the country and about who will replace him if he cannot complete his mandate. The president, 77, announced his candidacy for April 17th elections and claimed his victory, in spite of his weak health that is keeping him away from public politics after he suffered a stroke a year ago. While Algeria is in a political impasse deepened by the continuism of Buteflika and the lack of a new generation of political leadership.
