Opinion document: Thailand: The instability like constant (DIEEEO74-2014)

On May 22, 2014 the world was awakened with the news of the coup that had taken place in Thailand. The coups had been relatively common in the permanent turbulent political situation affecting the country since the establishment of the constitutional monarchy in 1932. In fact, since that date twenty coups adventures have taken place, of which, including the last one, a dozen succeeded.
What gave rise to this coup was the extreme violence that had unleashed on the streets lately, especially in the capital, between detractors and supporters of Thaksin Shinawatra, who was Prime Minister between 2001 and 2006, and that had arrived at certain moments to virtually paralyze the country.
This document will try to show the roots of the social conflict, the main facts, some conclusions and how the future could be.
