Humanitarian workers in conflict zones (DIEEEO83-2014)

The statistics of victimization of humanitarian workers in conflict zones indicate an increase in the last decade. Factors primarily due to victimization risk environment in which they have to develop their work, together with structural problems such as the attitude of NGOs they work for their safety and the relationships of these NGOs and the UN to contribute to its peacekeeping missions on the ground. Security has become a cross-cutting issue for NGOs and efforts to improve it are continuous. For this, various initiatives have been activated as the strategic concept CIMIC. Improving security necessarily involves an understanding with the other actors on the ground as armed and police forces, and humanitarian workers awareness that safety is crucial for the proper development of their missions.
