The fall of the Soviet Union marked the emergence of a set of armed conflicts that still remain latent in the new independent states. The role of nationalist discourse was and remains key to understanding the drift of all those territories that were not integrated into the new countries, which emerging in post-Soviet space. The Transnistrian case is paradigmatic because in it converge the geopolitical interests of the Russian Federation and the heritage of Soviet planning of nationalities. Despite not being recognized by the rest of the states, the Tiraspol authorities continue not to follow the mandates of the moldovan capital Chisinau.
