Sport as a diplomatic strategy in international relations.- Daniel Rodríguez Vázquez.

Sport is a social and cultural phenomenon that has played a fundamental role throughout history in the development of civilizations. As unifying element, sports practice fosters contact between different countries and cultures, and allows setting aside differences between nations to share common values. For this reason, on many occasions, shows and sporting events are used as instruments to conduct foreign policy and achieve various objectives: re-establishing relationships, acquiring global presence and recognition, image laundering… Sport is another way to do diplomacy, as demonstrated in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
