Violence and crime in Central America (DIEEEI04-2017)

The article analyzes the high cost of violence and crime in Central America, on the grounds of the information and figures published by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in a recent report The Costs of Crime and Violence: New Evidence and Insights in Latin America and the Caribbean. The countries of the region that use greater resources to the provision of police services, the judicial system as well as prison administration are in Central America,  in particular those of the Northern Triangle, which have the highest rates of violence and homicides, followed by Brazil. Despite the economic effort made by governments, the report questions the efficiency of the cost, hoping its authors that this information is useful for decision-making
