India: State elections and the risk of radicalizing the country (DIEEEI07-2017)

State elections were held in India in March. The sweeping victory of the BJP, the party of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in two important states has been understood as a thermometer of the general elections that will take place in 2019 and seems to give way to the governmental consolidation of the Hindu party. However, religious fanaticism and growing populism run the risk of radicalizing the country and yet do not address the necessary changes to curb corruption.
