The National Court sentence on the case "Alakrana" (DIEEEM09-2012)

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court gave judgment on 12 December 2011 on the appeals lodged against the decision given on May 3 earlier in the Audiencia Nacional in the kidnapping of Spanish tuna Alakrana in October 2009 by Somali pirates .
Although at the time of the assault on Alakrana Spanish law did not punish the crime of piracy, so that the perpetrators were eventually convicted of other crimes, attempted assault on the warship Patiño on January 12, 2012, delivery of xx pirates in Tanzania by Patrolman Infanta Elena on April 30, 2012 and the implication that Spain continues to demonstrate the maintenance of the Atalanta European Union, again raising the question of the opportunity or the need to judge the pirates Somalis in Spain.
