Activation of military units specializing in Civil Protection in Latin America and the Caribbean (DIEEEM11-2012)

Nowadays Governments are continually designing new tools and warning systems that anticipate the possible effects of hazards. The participation of the Armed Forces in aid of people affected by natural disasters is as old as the existence of the armies themselves. However, due to the inherent features of soldiers, their skills, organization and modus operandi, some countries have decided to focus some units in disaster relief inside their armies.
Along this document, we will talk over these new missions related to the Civil Protection assumed by the Latin American Armed Forces, with relation to the homeland security, and the emergence of these military emergency units in Central and South America.
