Burkina Faso: West African diplomat Pivot (DIEEEM18-2013)

Burkina Faso is a poor country located in West Africa, but its president, Blaise Compaoré, has managed to position itself as the ultimate mediator in regional conflicts as well as in cases of kidnappings that plague the Sahel. Since coming to power in 1987 the country has been meddled in conflicts and crises such as those in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Niger, Ivory Coast and Mali among others. Knowing the situation in the country and how it has come to play a role of mediator and arbitrator in the event of the region is the aim of this document.
