Crimea and the inheritance of the Admiral Gorshkov (DIEEEM10-2014)

The incorporation of Crimea to Russia (2014) constitutes an important event for the international politics of beginnings of the 21th. Century and it points out a new chapter of Russian’s great historical project of get permanent exits to the open sea and oceanic spaces of warm waters to overcome the confinement imposed by the geography of the country.
The article takes concentrates on Admiral Serguei Gorshkov’s figure and his refers to the importance of the Crimea Peninsula and its environment for the history, the naval strategy and the Russian-Soviet geopolitical. Gorshkov promoted the Russian-Soviet advance on the seas and oceans of the world, in which Crimea was an essential piece.
