European security, a real problem (DIEEEM08-2018)

This paper analyses the impact on Europe’s security of the evolution of the World Order, the endorsement of the Treaty of the European Union, NATO's enlargement, and the configuration of a geopolitical context characterised by confrontation of Great Powers. The desired transition to a European space free of risks and threats has given way instead to the accumulation of a number of them and their associated problems. All this, together with the Brexit, has made the EU react in search of its own mechanisms of security. The issue of the European Union Global Strategy and the establishment of the Permanent Structure Cooperation, together with the collaboration with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation make for a complex situation affecting directly Spain.
