The Democratic Republic of Congo and the circle of violence (DIEEEO76-2013)

Despite of the signing of Pretoria Peace Treaty a decade ago, neither the international community nor President Joseph Kabila, have yet managed to achieve stability and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ongoing reproduction of militias eager to defend their ethnic groups, as the high interest of the neighbouring countries to control its abundant natural resources, are products of the never ending conflict. The wealth generated by the sale of those minerals, allow at the same the continuation of violence and only a modification of the land property rights could put an end to this. The present essay aims to highlight the importance of the use of sociocultural knowledge as a tool to understand the outburst of conflicts, for that reason this work will be based on the historic analysis of sociocultural relations between the ethnic groups that exist in the territory, as well as on the study of the national idiosyncrasy.
