Security reform in the Central African Republic (DIEEEO107-2016)

During past decades, Central African Republic (CAR) has experience several critical periods, which brought the destruction of the economic and social tissue, as well as debilitating state capacities and to an extreme impoverishment of the population. After a transitional period that ended with presidential and legislative elections, during the forthcoming 5 years of the mandate of the elected president, Faustin Touadera, a Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) program and a Security Sector Reform (SSR) process must be capital for the stabilization and national reconciliation. This opinion document aims to analyze the problematic, background, current process and perspectives of the SSR process in the CAR.
