Security in Libya before and after the elections (DIEEEO63-2012)

Libya has held general elections on July 7, 2012. Even if the polls were perceived as an additional step in terms of political normalization by many observers, a long number of complex security problems remain unresolved. The existence of active and armed militias nine months after the formal end of the civil war, risks of territorial fragmentation of the country, and the emergence of Islamist actors are feeding instability at the domestic and the regional levels. In addition, the fact that Libya is rich in terms of energy resources is demanding the Libyan authorities a good management of them in terms of avoiding additional tensions and conflicts.
