The Security Council recently adopted United Nations 2023 Resolution, condemning the Eritrean government's support for terrorist groups that are proliferating in northeastern Africa. Relying on another resolution passed in 2009 (1907, 29 July), the Council decided to impose new obligations on the authorities in Asmara, in order to prevent them from using the income from mining (mainly gold, copper or zinc) to contribute to the financing of armed Islamist groups, including Al-Shabab Somali.
