South Africa, a country drifting in the new world order? (DIEEEO61-2017)

South Africa experienced, as a phoenix, a rebirth from the ashes of apartheid, giving way to a period of international prestige and unquestioned leadership on both the African and global scales. However, a few decades after such a promising start, the democratic euphoria seems to have deflated. In addition, the country's internal problems, such as inequality and xenophobia, only add to the disrepute and self-exclusion in the international sphere that the country has achieved because of its alignment with China and Russia, rivals of the Western bloc led by the United States of America.
