The UNASUR’s South American Defense Expenditure Registry (SADER) (DIEEEO129-2017)

The UNASUR’s South American Defense Expenditure Registry (SADER) is a confidence building measure of global recognition based on a successful scheme of south-south cooperation. It is also a prominent source of comparative information due to the originality and precision of its methodology, being the only one for South America elaborated from official data supplied by all its members. Created within the South American Defense Council in 2011, based on the Argentine-Chilean experience sponsored by ECLAC a decade before, is nowadays ready to be extended to the Inter and Ibero-American systems. However, current substantive argue about UNASUR’s future restricts its improvement and expansion. This article aims to be a contribution to this debate in its academic dimension, focusing on the SADER as a case study.
