Central Asia (DIEEEO60-2012)

The author of this article, Jesus Lopez-Medel, offers a view of Central Asia, one of the most important parts of the world and at the time, forgotten by the European Union. Its large size and its very important geostrategic position requires knowledge in more depth in this region. Being a large buffer between Russia and China and the neighborhood very troubled countries such as Iran and Afghanistan should be the subject of more interest. It is very important because they are communist legacy States that emerged from the disintegration of the USSR in 1991. Twenty years later, democracy in these countries is far away. They are very important factors such as the Islamist presence, great energy power, the commercial potential, insecure borders with the particular problem of drug trafficking and the question of his future after the military withdrawal in Afghanistan.
