The current high-voltage scenario on the Korean peninsula following advances in the North Korean nuclear program, its ballistic tests and the subsequent reactions from neighbours countries like South Korea and Japan, as well as the US, China, and Russia positions, are leading to a extremely worrying situation. The international community has reacted with a set of sanctions approved by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the last of which seem to have been the most important one in regard to its possible reach and how it can affect the North korean economy. This document analizes UNSC Resolution 2375 from a critic and realistic point of view trying to determine how they can help to decrease tensions in the area. It also addresses the last elements of financial pressure on PyongYang regime and the changes in the positions of the great superpowers.
