The US-Vietnam feasible alliance against Chinese hegemony (DIEEEO98-2016)

During his visit to Vietnam last May, the president of the United States, Barack Obama, announced a further step in the bilateral relations with one of America’s former and most bitter foes. By lifting the embargo on the exports of lethal military equipment -something unthinkable roughly a couple of decades ago, but that comes as anything but a surprise nowadays- the United States and Vietnam put an end to the last legal vestige of the conflict that pitted them against each other, bringing them together in a common project of vital importance for both: stopping the Chinese expansion in Southeast Asia.
