The entry of Croatia into the European Union (DIEEEO59-2013)

The European Union is crossing one of its most difficult moments, as a consequence of the international crisis that has affected particularly some of the countries of the Eurozone. It should not be neglected, however, that the Union is, and most likely will continue being, the most prosperous and the strongest economic group in the world with a GNP higher than the USA and much higher than the emerging economies considered altogether.
In these circumstances, Croatia, one of the countries detached from the former Yugoslavia, has completed in a meritorious effort, the negotiations of the Accession, accomplishing the Copenhagen political and economic criteria and surmounting the huge difficulties left after the war, particularly in solving the return of the refugees and the trial of war crimes.
