With its White Paper adopted in 2015, Italy has started a thorough review of its Defense Policy, with the goal of getting a military capable of defending its vital and strategic interests and, at the same time, to deal with the challenges of the future. It contains an ambitious program of reforms that will require from Italy, to develop the proper chain of command, and planning system to ensure the necessary consistency between its military strategy and its military capabilities, so that these two dimensions of the strategic equation, may act in a synergic way. Furthermore Italia, a Country aspiring to play a central role those in military affairs affecting the Mediterranean, basin, will have to assume that its security and defense is based on the premise that only if it shows solidarity and provides a significant contribution to international security, can conversely expect solidarity and support from partners and allies.
