Lebanon to the challenge of managing a chronic insurgency (DIEEEO58-2013)

Lebanon is on the verge of being immersed in war in Syria and in the common rumor mill regarding the imminent outbreak of a new conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, Lebanon has to deal with a domestic situation marked by the absence of government, state weakness, lack of efficiency of power-sharing mechanism, the incidence of communalism and sectarianism, and the existence of a number of different insurgency movements that challenge the state’s viability and encourage the increase of sectarianism. The main goal of this article is to present the impact of this insurgent competency on the Lebanese security and defense.
