Network neutrality (DIEEEA15-2015)

Network neutrality is an important concept in a world more and more dependent on the interconnection of systems. It is a simple concept that conveys that all that information sent to the internet abiding to the established norms will be processed with the same priority and, but exceptionally, information will not be discarded for its origin, destination or features. The main threat to neutrality has an economic motivation although some sectors yell for a brake to innovation associated to the impossibility to prioritize certain services. From a security point of view, it is also a challenge since information filtering requires its inspection to be classified, what means a serious risk for privacy. The subject is being dealt with in the European Union as well as in the United States, although it is also a focus point in other countries where access control and information filtering constitute tools used by the governments.
