Some ethical problems of emerging military technologies (DIEEEO16-2018)

Technologies developed by humankind have been incorporated and used in social phenomena, and so is the case in war. More often, warfare has been the driver of new scientific and technological developments.

Progress in human ethics has produced moral and legal rules to contain the terrible effects of war, from a just cause from its dawn to its expansion and the conditions of a successful peace.

Nowadays, emerging technologies are developed at an incredible pace and many have both civil and military application. Nevertheless, the analysis of ethical and legal implications of their improvement is not advancing in parallel with technology.

Ethical thinking must evolve in line with research, development, innovation and the use of scientific advances and this is a must for humanity and its inviolable dignity. To that end, the first step is to clarify some ethical problems in relation to emerging technologies.
