Comfort women: a historic agreement (DIEEEO11-2016)

The sexual violence against women as a weapon has been a constant fact in nearly every armed conflict. One of those episodes took place during WWII, the victims were called "comfort women" and the system spread across the territories controlled by the Empire of Japan. In this system the colonial dynamics, gender, social class, traditions and military strategies got mixed. During the 90's, the japanese Governments carried out a series of actions and policies in order to satisfy and compensate the victims, with uneven success. In Korea, these actions continue to be considered insufficient, hindering the complete normalization of the bilateral relation.
