The role of women in resolving the conflict in Mali (DIEEEO37-2017)

The government and armed groups signed the Algiers Peace Agreement in 2015 to resolve the latest Malian crisis, which began in 2012. However, to this day, the conflict seems never to end and the discrepancies between the parties are a constant. The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 affirms the key role of women in conflict prevention and resolution, and in peacebuilding. Nevertheless, women are not being formally and effectively taken into account, they are underrepresented and they have little power in decision-making. Despite this, and all the difficulties and challenges they face, Malian women insist on participating in the resolution of the conflict and fighting against impunity for crimes against human rights that they have particularly suffered during occupation of the north.
