Waste destruction Syrian Chemical Weapons. A hazard to health and the environment? (DIEEEO39-2014)

Nowadays the international community, headed by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the United Nations, is involved in the task of destroying the Syria’s chemical arsenal. In the past, several nations disposed their chemical arsenal using techniques that, even nowadays, endanger the health of people and the environment. This article aims to analyse the process of the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons and the risk generated for human health and the environment. In this way, information published in several media will be analysed and the process of how the chemical weapons are going to be destroyed will be described from the exit of Syrian territory to the last phase of its destruction by international companies with expertise managing chemical waste.
