The new hybrid war: A strategic analysis (DIEEEA54-2014)

Recent developments in Ukraine have raised the alarm in some scopes in the face of the conflict paradigm employed by Russia. The real or apparent combination of different means, military or not, overtly or covertly, in the context of a well-orchestrated plan, have increased the voices that said, once again, we are in an era that presents a new typology of conflict.

This new type of conflict has been called hybrid war, and is generating a broad debate to their full understanding. In this scope, a brief analysis on three key issues in this war paradigm, such as novelty or not, its contextualization in the war phenomenon and understanding of "hybrid" concept is made, from a strategic perspective, in order to make a reflection about it.
