The geopolitical configuration in the 21st Century (DIEEEM05-2015)

The geopolitical configuration in the 21st Century will be influenced by an array of cross-cutting factors that will result in a multipolar scenario.
Among these key factors are: the legacy of an ill inherited geographical configuration, the phenomenon of globalization and its main tools -the social networks and internet-, the environmental degradation, the distribution and transfer of fossil energy resources, the demographic evolution of the world, the geo-economic distribution and the differences among cultures and values.
We conclude that this century will witness a multipolar environment where the challenging “poles” will be: the US, China, South America and the international Organizations.
Old powers like the EU or Russia, albeit still important actors, will lose ability to influence the international concert, for the benefit of the new "poles" already mentioned.
