The dizziness of the future (DIEEEA13-2018)

In our time, characterized by a multipolar world order, predominates a pessimistic view of the future. The future of the world and of our societies will depend to a great extent on the major strategic decisions that will be taken in the main centers of power. In a historical moment that is also characterized by uncertainty, the dizziness of the future becomes more acute and this creates a breeding ground that pushes to make decisions that tend to weaken rather than strengthen the foundations on which the future is built. There are three major challenges that humanity will have to deal with correctly to face the future with guarantees: the rise of China, climate change and demographic evolution. In any case, we must recognize and value the multiple achievements of the present in order to have a more balanced vision of the challenges ahead and build a world where cooperation predominates over confrontation.
