The tentative agreement reached in Geneva on 24 November between the 5 +1 and Iran has allowed the international community to obtain a margin of comfort knowing that Tehran will not develop nuclear weapons. However, the Iranians have not negotiated for free: The Syrian derivative and the aspirations and fears of Israel and Saudi Arabia form a triangular equilibrium that may determine the future of the region.
